Risk
Management is Project Management for Adults
Tim Lister is a principal of
the Atlantic Systems Guild, Inc., based in the New York office. He divides
his time between consulting, teaching, and writing. Tim is co-author with
his partner, Tom DeMarco, of the new book, Waltzing With Bears: Managing
Risk on Software Projects (Dorset House, 2003). His article, written with
Tom DeMarco, Both Sides Always Lose: Litigation of Software Intensive
Contracts, was the feature article in the February 2000 issue of the
journal, CrossTalk.
He is working on tailoring software development processes using software
risk management techniques. He is on the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Repository
Technology Advisory Council, and is a member of the Cutter IT Trends
Council. For the Cutter IT Trends Council he has written the majority
opinion on Internet2, Continuous Partial Attention, and Risk Management.
Tim Lister and Tom DeMarco are also co-authors of Peopleware: Productive
Projects and Teams, 2nd Edition (Dorset House, 1999).
Tim
is a member of the I.E.E.E. and the A.C.M.
He also serves as a panelist for the American Arbitration
Association, arbitrating disputes involving software and software
services.

Getting
Started in Process Improvement: The First Five Years Are the Hardest
Ken
Dymond worked under Watts Humphrey in the SEI Process Program and is an
SEI-authorized lead assessor.
His book A Guide to the CMM®, translated into French, Spanish,
Japanese and German, is used worldwide by process improvement teams. He
originated the pictogram method for visualizing processes in A Guide to
the CMM and wrote the Assessment Coordinator’s Handbook, published by
his company, Process Transition International, Inc.
He is an authorized instructor for Introduction to CMMI®.

Joseph Billi has over 23
years of experience in Software Engineering. He has been involved in
Process Improvement for more than 15 years.
Joseph is currently Vice
President of Project and Process Management at Automatic Data Processing
(ADP) where he was elected an ADP Fellow in October 2000. His
responsibilities focus on improving the performance ADP 100 Information
Technology (IT) organizations through process improvement, technology
adoption and standardization.
Joseph is an SEI Authorized
Lead Assessor. He is also co-founder of the North SPIN, and was co-Chair
of the 1996 SEPG Conference. Joseph
has a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.

Improvement in a Commercial Environment
Kimberly
Fix is the First Vice President, Director of Process and Quality for
CitiTech’s Global Electronic Customer e-Delivery within Citibank.
She has been with Citibank for 13 years and has worked in the field
of software engineering process improvement for 10 of those years.
She is a SEI Authorized Lead Assessor and an authorized instructor
for SEI’s Introduction to the
Capability Maturity Model course.
Kim has extensive experience in implementing process improvement
using the CMM as the framework. With
significant management experience, Kim has a real-world understanding of
the complexity of making changes in information technology environments
and the importance of tying these changes to business objectives.
Kim has also held process and quality positions within the Data
Center, Architecture and Emerging Technologies and the corporate bank.
Prior to joining Citibank, she worked with Financial Technology
International, a subsidiary of U.S. Trust.

Lori
has 35 years experience in systems development and back office operations
in the Financial Services industry.
In 1995, while at Merrill Lynch, Lori switched her focus from
systems development to software process improvement when she participated
in a Capability Maturity Model assessment.
An accomplished trainer and lecturer, Lori is now the Director of
Training at Software Management Solutions.
Prior to Merrill Lynch, she worked at the Bank of Montreal,
Citicorp, Continental Insurance and Sears, Roebuck. She holds an MBA in
Finance from Rutgers, and has also done postgraduate work at NJIT and the
New York Institute for Finance.

a Large Financial Software Department Found its Way to Level 2
Carl
Hagelin has been in financial software development for 23 years.
He has been with Pershing, a major outsourcer of brokerage
services, for nine years as it moved from DLJ to Credit Suisse First
Boston, and now Bank of New York. His
focus turned to the software process five years ago when he served on the
fledgling project office. Carl
trained in CMM and established an SEPG which he has chaired for four
years. Pershing is currently
implementing CMM Level 3 across its 1200-person global US and India
software organization.

Jim
is the Director of Quality and Process Engineering at L-3 Communications
ILEX Systems. He planned and coordinated the SPI Program that moved his
organization from CMM Level 1 to Level 3 in approximately 15 months.
Jim
has over 20 years of software engineering, testing, quality assurance,
program management, and software process improvement experience.
His degrees include a BS in Information Systems and Sciences and an
MS in Software Engineering.

Lawrence
Medici has over twenty years experience in Information Technology.
Mr. Medici began his career in Software Development at Bankers
Trust.
He has performed software development for The American Broadcasting
Company (ABC), AT&T and Merrill Lynch.
He has managed major development efforts for Merrill Lynch and was
a Technical Adviser to their Technology Audit Department.
Mr. Medici managed a successful process improvement effort for
Merrill’s Corporate Systems Organization and at that time became a
certified CMM Instructor.
He has performed Change Management process consulting and was the
Director of IS Process for The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company
(A&P).

Sigma and Software Process Improvement
Steve
Janiszewski - Steve has 30 years of experience in all phases of software
development, management, and process improvement. As software engineering
manager in Teterboro, New Jersey, Steve, together with Ellen George (then
the head of the SEPG), led his organization to be become the first CMM®
Level 4 site within the AlliedSignal corporation. Prior to joining
PS&J, Steve was the Director of the Honeywell corporate System and
Software Six Sigma organization. Steve is an SEI authorized PSPSM
instructor and TSPSM Launch Coach. He holds a MS and Ph.D. in theoretical
physics from NYU.
LARRY BERNSTEIN

Software - Analysis for Software Reliability
Larry
is the Industry Research Professor of Software Engineering at Stevens
Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ.
He teaches software engineering and manages their new Master’s
program in Quantitative Software Engineering. He
is on the Board of Center for National Software Studies and Director of
the NJ Center for Software Engineering.
He
had a 35-year distinguished career at Bell Laboratories managing large
software projects. Many of
the projects were in deep trouble when Larry took them on and he made most
of them a success. He is a
Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and of the
Association for Computing Machinery.
ALAN WILLETT
The

Alan
Willett works for the Software Engineering Institute.
He is a member of the team developing the Team Software Process.
Alan has 20+ years of experience in software development.
He has written software, managed software development projects,
participated on various Engineering Process Groups, and is a TSP launch
coach. Alan has a Masters of Science in the Management of Technology.
PAUL E. JANUSZ
Using
PSM to Implement Measurement in CMMI-Based Process Improvement
With
over 20 years experience, Paul Janusz is a key member of the US Army
TACOM-ARDEC's Practical Software and Systems Measurement (PSM) project,
leading its implementation on Army programs and improving their cost,
schedule, and technical performance. As part of TACOM-ARDEC’s CMMI Level
3 process improvement activities, he developed procedures for performance
management, measurement and analysis, estimation, risk management and
decision support analysis. This was done by integrating the PSM, CMMI, and
ISO/IEC standards with hands-on experience.
DON O'NEILL
Return
on Investment Using Software Inspections
Don
O’Neill is a seasoned software engineering manager and technologist
currently serving as an independent consultant. Following his twenty-seven
year career with IBM’s Federal Systems Division, Mr. O’Neill completed
a three year residency at Carnegie Mellon University’s Software
Engineering Institute (SEI) under IBM’s Technical Academic Career
Program.
He is a founding member of the Washington DC Software Process Improvement
Network (SPIN) and the National Software Council (NSC) and serves as the
Executive Vice President of the Center for National Software Studies (CNSS).
He is a collaborator with the Center for Empirically-based Software
Engineering (CeBASE). Mr. O’Neill has a Bachelor of Science degree
in mathematics from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
